In short, Shuffle Reviews is a place to discuss, defend, and dissect good music. It is not about what is new, or unknown, or trendy- or to be more specific, it is a place where all of the above can be showcased on equal grounds. Through this, it is my hope that you can take a second look at the songs that you love and see what drew you to them and through that know how to find that next great band. Or, possibly, these reviews may just encourage you to take a second look at something that you haven't thought of in a long time, or introduce you to an artist that you'll love.

So, why is it called Shuffle Reviews? Simple- every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I will hit the shuffle button on my own... eclectic collection of music, and discuss the resultant song/artist/album (or most likely, some combination of the three.)  Of course, music is an inherently subjective thing, and I'm certainly not saying that only things in my collection are good enough to discuss, or good to everyone. As the saying goes, there's no accounting for taste, and I'm certain that there will be things that I discuss that you, dear reader, think are absolute trash. That's why there is no rating system in the Shuffle Reviews, be it stars, a ten point scale, or any other categorical ranking. I do not listen to music ironically. I legitimately like or even love every piece of music in my personal collection, save some very specific exceptions- if I didn't, there would be little point to having it in the first place! And so, trying to rank them all based on how much I like them relative to one another would be pointless and and self gratifying. Instead, with every entry, I will pull out and examine what exactly I like about the subject- be it the lyrics, its history, the instrumentation, or some other factor. It is this that I hope will resonate, and as I said before, inspire a deeper look at your own tastes, or just show you something that you'll love as much as I do.

Hello, and welcome to the beginning of Shuffle Reviews!            Now, most of what this blog will be about has been covered in the 'About' section, but I just wanted to take a brief moment before this project starts to write about a couple of things- namely, how this blog is going to work.           First of all, the basis of all of this is that three times a week, I will hit shuffle on my music collection, and talk about the song/album/artist, and what makes them good, at least in my opinion. Track 1- Les Nouveaux Riches (Falco Symphonic)

Artist:   Falco Album: Falco Symphonic Genre: Neue Deutsche Welle              To paraphrase the Bloodhound Gang, this first review goes out to a money making playa' that ain't with us no mo'- Falco. Falco's is not something that is often considered by most here in the U.S.A., and when it is, it's usually a punchline. Falco is most often viewed as a one hit wonder, known only for a somewhat kitschy and definitely 80s pop hit. Still, a closer look at his work can unveil a surprising amount of depth, as well as a lot of enjoyment on its own merit.        Johann Hötzel, more commonly known by his stage name Falco, was not a man with little musical talent. He even attended the prestigious Vienna Conservatoire for a short while when he was sixteen. Track 2- Troll Nacht

Artist: The Dodos Album: Time To Die Genre: Indie Rock/Folk       The Dodos are a fabulous example of two people with seemingly incongruous styles coming together to form an end product that is greater than either of its individual parts. The Dodos is composed of two men- drummer and progressive metal inspired Logan Kroeber and instrumentalist Meric Long. Combined, their sound became something really unique.       It should come as no surprise that the Dodos sound something like Dax Riggs solo work, but with more musical complexity. It occupies a grey space between simple singer songwriter with an acoustic guitar folk and the smooth yet busy sound of This Town Needs Guns or a similar "math rock" group, especially on Visiter, No Color, and Individ. On their other albums, Time to Die and Carrier, the tracks take on a fuller feel, with Long recording additional instrumentation along with the original duo of his guitar and singing, and Kroeber's drumm...
